Vehicle Crashes Into Oakbrook Center Mall

A vehicle backing out of a parking space Monday afternoon slammed into the entrance of Neiman Marcus at Oakbrook Center mall, police said.

The 68-year-old driver from Warrenville inadvertently accelerated at about 2:52 p.m., police said in a statement, and struck a parked vehicle, which caused a chain reaction crash involving two other vehicles. The man tried to reverse his vehicle, struck two more cars and crashed into Neiman Marcus' south vestibule, police said.

The vestibule was not occupied and affected cars were empty during the crash.

The driver and his passenger were transported to Elmhurst Hospital and released the same day.

The driver was cited with improper backing and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.
