Vegas Oddsmakers Bullish on Cubs' Chances at History

The Chicago Cubs are off to an incredible start and already have a three and a half game lead in the National League Central, and Las Vegas oddsmakers are reacting appropriately to the team’s excellent play.

On Monday, the William Hill sports book in Las Vegas adjusted the Cubs’ over/under total for victories during the 2016 season. That number has now been set at 116.5 wins for the season, with a winning bet paying out $1500 for every $100 wagered.

If the Cubs end up hitting the over on that total, they would not only (likely) have the best record in baseball, but more impressively would set a new Major League record for wins in a season. That number currently sits at 116 victories, which is shared by the 1906 Cubs and the 2001 Seattle Mariners.

Even if the Cubs do hit the over, or tie the record, that doesn’t necessarily mean big things for their World Series chances. The 1906 Cubs were beaten by the Chicago White Sox in the World Series, and the 2001 Mariners were defeated in the American League Championship Series by the New York Yankees.

If fans want to bet against the Cubs making history, then it would cost a lot of money to make anything. For every $4000 wagered, fans would only stand to make $100 in profit.
