Van Plows Into Popular Humboldt Park Restaurant

A van plowed into a popular Cuban restaurant on Chicago’s Northwest Side early Monday morning.

Police say a woman was driving a SUV when she lost control of the vehicle and crashed into an empty van that was parked on the street, sending it flying right through the Señor Pan restaurant near North and Talman Avenues in the city’s Humboldt Park neighborhood.

The woman was transported to Stroger Hospital in serious to critical condition, according to fire officials.

Restaurant Owner Gisela Hamud says she and her husband got an unwanted wakeup call about 3 a.m. from police telling them about the accident. When they arrived, Hamud says they couldn't believe their eyes.

Just after 6 a.m., the van was still seen sticking half-in and half-out of the storefront.

The restaurant owners told NBC 5 they are determined to reopen as soon as possible. [[378620521, C]]
