A Mass was held Sunday in Italy in support of a University of Iowa student who was seriously injured in a fall in Rome, according to university officials.
Andrew Mogni, 20, from west suburban Glen Ellyn, fell during the early morning hours on Jan. 14, but details on where or how he fell were not immediately available.
School officials said the fall is believed to have been an accident, but police are investigating.
Mogni had recently arrived in Rome for a semester program at John Cabot University in Trastevere. He is a third-year finance major at the university's Henry B. Tippie College of Business.
The service was held Sunday at 11 a.m. Rome time at a church near the university's campus in Trastevere. Mogni's parents and two brothers attended along with the university's assistant provost, Doug Lee, and the John Cabot University chief of staff, Kathryne Fedele.
“The university’s thoughts are with Mogni and his family during this difficult time,” the school said in a statement.
Counseling services are available for students in Rome and at the University of Iowa.
