Simone Biles and Her Chicago-Raised Coach Form Legendary Bond

U.S. women’s gymnastics coach Aimee Boorman and all-around gold medalist Simone Biles have a bond compared by some to the 85’ Bears' Mike Ditka and Walter Payton.

The born-and-raised Chicago coach has been with Biles since she was 8.

“We’ve been with each other for like 12 years, so the bond is obviously very strong and I think that everyone can see that and she’s like a second mom to me,” Biles said.

Boorman believes the two have really grown together and it's what made the duo a special team.

“You know she was 8 when I started coaching her, she’s 19 now and she was just a little kid who walked into the gym and just kinda started doing gymnastics, and then she got to a point where I realized I had to like learn more,” Boorman said. “I had to learn how to teach more skills just to keep up with her but we have that trust with each other.”

Biles said Boorman knows how she feels whenever she walks into the gym because they have known each other for so long.

Since working with Boorman, Biles has been the only American woman to win 14 total world championship medals. She became the first woman to be the all-around world champion three years in a row and the first female gymnast since 1974 to win four consecutive all-around titles in the U.S. national championships.

The Olympian's collection of medals doesn't stop there--Biles won her fourth gold medal in Rio Tuesday in the floor exercise.
