UIC police are urging students on and near campus to be extra vigilant after two students were robbed Wednesday night.

The students were approached by three males, one with a handgun, shortly before 11 p.m. in 1100 block of South Loomis Street.

The victims gave up their belongings and the three individuals sped away in a maroon-colored vehicle south on Loomis, and east onto Crenshaw Street, according to a police alert sent to students Thursday.

University police issued a campus alert after two separate gunpoint robberies involving students near campus this week. Michelle Relerford reports.

The students, who were not injured, provided police with the following descriptions:

    • Black male, 21 years old, 5-feet 9-inchess tall, 140 pounds with brown eyes, a dark complexion, short black braided hair, wearing a maroon hoodie and armed with a black handgun.
    • Black male, 17-19 years old, 5-feet, 4-inches tall, 120 pounds with brown eyes, a medium complexion, black hair and wearing a red hoodie.
    • Black male, 19-20 years old, 5-feet 6-inches tall, 130 pounds with brown eyes, a dark complexion, black hair and wearing a green-and-light-grey hoodie.
Police say the students did the right thing in this case -- giving up their beongs and noting the characteristics of their assailants.

Students are also urged to be aware of their surroundings and to travel in groups when possible.
