U of Illinois Postpones Plans to Honor Academy Award-Winner Ang Lee With Degree

The University of Illinois' plan to give alumnus Ang Lee an honorary degree is on hold.

University officials told The News-Gazette in Champaign that they will have to wait because Lee will not be able to attend a May 14 commencement ceremony. The filmmaker is working on a movie.

Lee is a 1980 graduate of the university.

He has won Academy Awards for best director for "Brokeback Mountain" in 2005 and "Life of Pi" in 2012. Lee's "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" also won the Academy Award for best foreign- language film in 2000.
