A University of Illinois student from Lake in the Hills died Saturday morning after a hit-and-run accident.
Anthony Pauls, 22, was hit by a vehicle around 11:50 p.m. Friday in the 200 block of West University Avenue near an intersection, according to a press release from the Urbana Police Department. The vehicle then fled the scene, the release said.
Pauls was taken to Carle Foundation Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, according to the release.
Police arrested 20-year-old Albert Flemings in connection with the accident after locating his vehicle, which sustained heavy damage, stated the release.
Flemings is currently being held at the Champaign County Satellite Jail. Police have charged him with driving under the influence of alcohol, leaving the scene of an accident involving injury or death, along with other traffic charges, the release said.
