Two semi trucks collided, causing an explosion early Tuesday morning along Interstate 55, according to Illinois State Police.

The accident happened just before 7 a.m. in the southbound lanes of I-55 south of U.S. Route 6 in south suburban Channahon, police said.

One of the trailers caught fire after the crash, which then spread to the other trailer, officials said.

State Police believe one of the trailers was carrying natural gas.

No injuries were reported as of Tuesday morning but southbound I-55 was shut down from Route 6 to Bluff Road.
