Two Injured in Lawndale Fire

Fire leaves 6-8 people homeless

Chicago firefighters rescued two people from a burning building early Monday morning.

Firefighters responded at 1:40 a.m. to the scene of 2741 W. 59th Street in Chicago's Lawndale neighborhood. The fire started on the west end of a 3-story building which houses a storefront and apartments on the second and third floors, according to the Chicago Fire Department.

One man was transported to Holy Cross Hospital, 2701 W. 68th Street, in serious condition with smoke inhalation.

The fire left as many as eight people displaced, according to the Chicago Fire Department.

The cause remains under investigation.
