Trick-or-Treaters Return Wedding Ring Found in Candy Bag

The girls made fliers they had planned to distribute in search of the ring's owner

When Ellie and Kenna Carlin began sorting through their Halloween loot, they found an unexpected treat.

The two young girls, who were dressed as “Frozen” princesses, discovered a wedding ring amid their candy surprises after a night of trick-or-treating in suburban Plainfield.

The girls quickly knew their find was important and began making fliers to find its owner. They had planned to put their fliers, which read "Found. We found a diamond ring in our Halloween candy," in mailboxes in the area.

Meanwhile, Jen Vasek was distraught as she realized she had lost her “priceless” wedding ring. Her husband also began posting fliers around the neighborhood that read "Lost, wedding ring in trick-or-treat bag."

“I had no doubt it was in a candy bag,” Jen Vasek said.

While the girls were en route to distribute their fliers, someone saw the “lost ring” flier and told their father, who quickly called the Vaseks with the good news.

“I said, ‘I have your wedding ring,’” he said. “She said ‘I’m going to cry’ and that it was worth, it was priceless, worth a million bucks.”

Vasek said she was overjoyed with emotion after receiving the phone call.

“After I hung up I was sobbing,” she said. “What great role models, I mean, and six and eight. I’m just blessed. I’m truly blessed.”

Vasek said her husband plans to take her to get the ring sized this winter, but she isn’t the only one thanking the two young princesses for their kindness after Halloween.

The girls also donated most of their candy to the USO as part of a school project to pay it forward—again.
