2 Injured After Amtrak Train Hits Truck Near West Suburban Lisle

Two people were injured after an Amtrak train hit a truck Saturday evening just west of the Lisle stop in the western suburbs. The incident also forced Metra to halt train service on the BNSF line.

Amtrak Train number 383 was heading west toward Naperville when it made contact with a BNSF truck, according to Amtrak spokesperson Chelsea Kopta.

The collision occurred near the Yackley Avenue bridge, according to the Lisle-Woodridge Fire Department.

Metra confirmed two railway workers were injured in the incident. The identities and conditions of the two were not known. Track welders were doing work related to the cold in the Lisle area, according to Metra. No one on board the train was injured.

The train was carrying 114 passengers and three crew members with a final destination of Quincy, according to Amtrak. It was the last Amtrak train of the evening. Passengers waited for at least four hours as Amtrak sent buses to transport them.

Train numbers 1320 and 1322 did not operate because of the incident. The track was repoened at approximately 11:40 p.m., about five hours after the collision according to Metra. Both Metra and BNSF trains will operate normally Sunday.
