Top Baby Names Released for Illinois

Noah unseats popular Jacob, Alexander

Illinois' top baby names for 2013 reflected national trends in the boys category, with Noah topping the list above the U.S. favorite Jacob and locally popular Alexander.

The Social Security Administration this week released its state-by-state lists of the most popular baby names in each of the 50 states, following up on its list last week of the most popular names nationwide.

While Sophia reigned across the country, it ranked second in Illinois, where Olivia took No. 1.

Sophia was most popular in Illinois for the previous two years, topped by Isabella in 2010 and 2009.

Noah unseated Alexander, which topped the list for four straight years beginning in 2008.

The Social Security Administration compiles the baby names list each year from all the Social Security applications received from parents. There were approximately 4 million births in the U.S. in 2013, acting commissioner Carolyn W. Colvin said.
