A 20-month-old baby boy died Friday after he was found unresponsive inside a vehicle parked outside his Burbank home, police said.
According to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office, the toddler died from heat stroke as a result of neglect and his death was ruled a homicide.
Burbank police said they received a report of an unresponsive 20-month-old baby boy around 5:50 p.m. Friday in the 4800 block of West 85th Street.
The toddler was transported to Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn and was pronounced dead at 6:20 p.m., police said.
A preliminary investigation indicated the child had been left unattended in the vehicle “for a period of time,” according to a press release from the Burbank Police Department.
The child was found by his parents inside their family vehicle that was parked in the driveway, police said.
After reviewing the case with the Cook County State's Attorney's office and Department of Children and Family Services, Burbank police said Saturday they would not file charges in the toddler's death.
"It was learned through this investigation the parents never intended on harming their child," Burbank police said in a release. "The circumstances surrounding this incident are a tragic accident."
