Toddler Alerts Neighbors to Stepfather's Fatal Shooting

A 3-year-old girl reportedly alerted neighbors to the shooting of her 24-year-old stepfather at a home in the Morgan Park neighborhood Friday.

Police responded to a report of shots fired around 3:10 p.m. in the 1100 block of West 111th Place, according to Chicago Police News Affairs Officer Jose Estrada.

A toddler, who was thought to have been home at the time of the shooting, ran next door to tell neighbors, the Chicago Tribune reported.

A 24-year-old man was found dead inside the residence with a gunshot wound to the head, Estrada said.

The Cook County Medical Examiner’s office said the man was pronounced dead at 3:40 p.m. but said he was not identified as of Saturday morning.

Police believe the shooting may have been narcotics related but no one was in custody as of Saturday morning.

Area South detectives are investigating.
