A group beaten last weekend during a wedding shower in Tinley Park may have been attacked because of their white supremacist viewpoints.
A law enforcement source told the Chicago Sun-Times 15 people wearing black hooded jackets possibly targeted the group because it was made up of white supremacists. The attackers stormed the Ashford House on Saturday and used hammers and bats on their victims.
One of the victims, Beckie Williams, told the Sun-Times she doesn't know where the white supremacist accusations came from. Her group is called the European Heritage Group and Saturday was their first meeting, she said.
Five men are in custody, but they are not talking to police. Charges could come as early as Monday.
Tinley Park Mayor Ed Zabrocki said he isn't sure if the people involved in the incident have any connection to the NATO protesters downtown.
