More than 20 people were displaced after part of the roof was blown off a retirement home during the storm in west suburban Aurora.

A rubber membrane blew off the roof, causing significant water damage on the fourth through seventh floors of the Constitution House, 401 N. Constitution, city spokesperson Dan Ferelli said in a statement.

About 96 units in the building were affected, Ferelli said. Some of the displaced residents will be temporarily placed in unused units and many others will stay with relatives.

No one was injured and Red Cross was assisting displaced residents.

About 17 people were displaced when lightning struck the roof of a multi-unit building and caused a small fire in the 500 block of Harford in Aurora, Ferelli said. Power was shut off due to the fire.

No one was injured and $20,000 in damage was incurred.
