A blaze in a Northwest Side residential building Sunday morning injured three people, including a fire lieutenant and displaced at least a dozen people from their homes.

Around 9 a.m. Sunday, a fire broke out at 4720 W. Montana, according to Fire Media Affairs spokesperson Joe Roccasalva.

The blaze spread throughout the back of the first and second floors of the building.

Two adults were rescued and suffered from smoke inhalation, they were taken to Our Lady of the Resurrection Medical Center and Saint Mary Medical Center, both in serious condition, Roccasalva said.

A fire lieutenant battling the blaze was also hurt but only suffered minor injuries, he was hospitalized in fair condition, according to Roccasalva.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
