Elgin police have arrested a third suspect in the armed robbery Wednesday of an Elgin bank.

Three men held up the Elgin State Bank, 590 N. McLean Ave., at about 4:45 p.m. Wednesday, police said. Two suspects were arrested immediately after the robbery following a brief car and foot chase. A third suspect fled the scene.

The suspect was said to be armed, and police Wednesday asked residents near Big Timber Road and McLean to stay inside and lock their doors and windows.

The third suspect was arrested in Batavia, Elgin police said early Thursday. An investigation led to the suspect's arrest in the nearby city.

Charges are expected later Thursday, police said.
