Family members and authorities hope newly released surveillance photos will help find the driver who hit a 19-year-old woman on a scooter and fled, leaving her in critical condition.
The accident happened just before 4 p.m. Saturday in Chicago’s Humboldt Park neighborhood.
The teen was riding in the 3200 block of West Crystal Avenue when she was hit from behind by a vehicle, whose driver then on Kedzie Avenue.
“I am losing some of my faith in our community that this person left her laying there to die,” said Paul Marzullo, who identified the woman on the scooter as his daughter Kelsey. “They not only struck her, from what we understand, they ran her over and then not only did they run her over, they left her there.”
Marzullo said Kelsey had just left her Humboldt Park home to meet up with some friends when the crash happened.
“There was a Good Samaritan that had said that she heard a crash and when she heard the crash she said the impact noise was so loud she assumed it was two cars at an intersection,” Marzullo said.
He added that the witness and her husband stayed with his daughter until an ambulance arrived.

Kelsey was critically wounded in the crash, suffering a concussion and several broken bones.
“She has a broken clavicle, broken ribs, she had a broken femur that was operated on Sunday, successfully I might add,” he said.
Police said the driver was driving a tan, four-door, 2003-2005 Chrysler Sebring with Illinois plates. The driver is believed to have been in his late-20s and there appeared to have been up to three passengers in the vehicle at the time of the crash.
