The Second City Teams Up with Lyric Opera

Two performances to take place in December and Janary at the Civic Opera House

In what's sure to be an entertaining combination, some of Chicago's leading improv comics and the esteemed Lyric Opera will join theatrical forces.

Lyric Opera of Chicago and The Second City are gearing up for two collaborative performances that both hope will generate some audience crossover between the two, the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

World renowned singer Renee Fleming played a role in getting the idea off the ground after attending a Second City show on her own.

Two collaborative performances have been planned for the Civic Opera House this winter.

"Popcorn & Pasquale," set for Dec. 2, and "The Second City Guide to the Opera," set for Jan. 5," will both feature members of The Second City comedy troupe along with opera singers and performers.

"Popcorn & Pasquale" is a take for kids on Donizetti's comic opera "Don Pasquale," and will include a sing-a-long and give children a behind-the-scenes look at a set change, according to the Sun-Times.

"The Second City Guide to the Opera" is a comedic musical revue show.

Tickets for the performances will go on sale Aug. 1 for the general public.
