Teens Tried to Sell Pancake Mix as Cocaine to Undercover Officers: Police

Two suburban Chicago teens allegedly tried to sell pancake mix disguised as thousands of dollars worth of cocaine to undercover officers, according to police.

Rafael Osorio Jr., 18, of Elgin was charged with three class X felony counts of unlawful delivery of a controlled substance, a class two felony of unlawful delivery of a controlled substance and unlawful manufacture or distribution of a look-alike substance, police said Friday.

Jaime A. Anselmo, 19, also of Elgin, faces a felony count of unlawful delivery of a controlled substance and unlawful manufacture or distribution of a look-alike substance.

Police claim the two were arrested after a months-long investigation into drug trafficking, in which Osorio Jr. allegedly sold controlled substances to undercover officers at least three times.

On the fourth and final transaction, which they said happened at an Elgin park, both Osorio and Anselmo "attempted to deliver was determined to be a box of pancake mix wrapped to look like a large quantity of drugs."

The Chicago Tribune reports the teens told police the package was one kilogram of cocaine, which they were selling for $27,000.

"This complex case involved a mix of many divisions within Elgin PD which is always a recipe for success," Chief Jeffrey Swoboda said in a statement. "On a serious investigation like this, we will never short stack our efforts."

Osorio’s bond was set at $200,000 and Anselmo’s bond was set at $20,000. Both are expected to appear in court on June 30.
