Two young teens not even old enough to drive are accused of carjacking a man at gunpoint before fleeing from police and crashing into a UPS truck in Chicago Tuesday.
A 45-year-old Chicago Transit Authority driver told NBC 5 he was driving his vehicle at about 2:30 a.m. near 31st Street and South King Drive when he pulled over fearing his car may have been overheating.
That’s when Reggie Lark said someone walked up with a handgun and ordered him out of his 2014 silver Chevy Malibu, according to authorities.
As Lark got out of the car, a second armed teen told him to take off his shoes, police said.
“The kid shouted, ‘Where’s the money, take off your clothes, your shoes,’” Lark said.
The two then got into the vehicle and fled southbound on King Drive, authorities said.
On-duty officers saw the stolen vehicle and tried to pull it over before it hit a UPS truck in the 6300 block of South Prairie Avenue.

The two teens, ages 14 and 15, were taken to Comer Children’s Hospital in stable condition, fire officials said. The driver of the UPS truck refused treatment and an Illinois State Police trooper injured his hand while chasing the teens, according to authorities.
Lark said he was eventually picked up by a passing tow truck driver. The crash happened along his usual bus route, but he was on vacation Tuesday.
“Material things don’t matter,” Lark said. “I just thought of my kids.”
