Teen Shoplifting on Mag Mile Rises

Chicago Police say juvenile shoplifting on Michigan Avenue is on the rise

More teens are hitting the Magnificent Mile to shoplift, police say.

Juvenile arrests are up 10 percent since last year in the district that includes the Michigan Avenue strip of stores, the Sun-Times reports.

Authorities think it's the latest form of thrill-seeking for young people.

In January, 11 teens stole clothes from several Mag Mile stores at the same time. Police think the theft was coordinated through text messages.

Authorities are monitoring social networking sites and increasing patrols in the area to try and put an end to the trend. They say there have been fewer cases of flash-mob thefts in recent months but smaller groups continue to shoplift in the area.
