A teenage boy has died after a Near North Side shooting, during which a responding officer was wounded when he accidentally shot himself, police said.
About 9:20 p.m., the 16-year-old was in the 1300 block of North Cleveland when someone riding on a bike opened fire, authorities said. The teen was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he later died, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.
A police officer who was responding to the shooting was getting out of his vehicle when his gun discharged, police said. He had a gunshot wound to the foot and was in good condition at Northwestern Memorial Hospital.
