Teen Charged in Armed Robbery, Shooting of Domino's Delivery Driver

Police are still searching for two other “persons of interest” involved in the crime

A 15-year-old boy has been charged in the shooting of a Domino’s Pizza delivery driver in south suburban Dolton last week and police are still searching for two other “persons of interest” involved in the incident.

The Dolton teen was charged with armed robbery and attempted murder, according to Dolton Police. He is expected to be taken to the Chicago Juvenile Detention Center and appear in bond court Saturday, officials said.

The shooting took place last Saturday during the late evening hours near 141st Place and Indiana Avenue.

Police said the driver was exiting his car with a pizza when he was approached by three young men who announced a robbery. One of the men had a gun, according to authorities.

“They weren’t happy with the robbery and tried to make him go into a gangway,” said Detective Darryl Hope. “He tried to get away.”

The employee was shot twice in the back and once in the hand and was transported to an area trauma center where he was listed in critical condition, officials said.

“It’s probably one of the most difficult situations I can imagine,” said owner of the Domino’s location in Dolton, Reece Arroyave. “We’re pizza guys… Our drivers are only allowed to take up to $20 on deliveries, that’s why we find it senseless that these things happen.”

Police said the employee is the third to be robbed in the last two months, with two other robberies reported in neighboring suburbs Homewood and Riverdale. Those employees were not injured, but officials said they are trying to determine if they might be connected.

Domino’s Pizza announced Monday it was offering a $5,000 reward for any information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspects in the shooting.

“He’s worked with us for years,” said Arroyave. “Great guy, great leader… It’s very heartbreaking that he had to go through this.”

Police said they were still searching for two other persons of interest in the crime and the investigation was ongoing. They expect more arrests over the weekend, according to a release from Dolton police.

Police and Domino’s Pizza asked community members to report any information surrounding the shooting to the Dolton Police Department at (708)- 201-3200 or to Detective Hope at (708)-925-6701.
