A 14-year-old boy is in custody after police say he dropped a handgun on Michigan Avenue Wednesday.

The boy was arrested after officers noticed the gun drop to the median as he was crossing the street near Chicago Avenue, according to the Chicago Tribune.

The teen was charged with two counts of unlawful use of weapon and one count of unlawful possession, according to the Cook County Attorney's Office.

He will be held in detention until his trial later this month.
