Team Obama Raises $68M in Fourth Quarter

That amount includes more than $42 million raised by Obama's Chicago-based campaign

In a video released to supporters Thursday morning, Obama Campaign Manager Jim Messina announced the team raised more than $68 million in the 4th quarter that ended on Dec. 31, 2011.

That amount includes more than $42 million raised by the Chicago-based campaign, more than $24 million raked in by the DNC and another $1 million-plus raised by a swing-state victory fund.

Messina also announced that a total of 1.3 million Americans have now donated money to the Obama campaign.

Romney's campaign said Wednesday it had collected $56 million for the primary through Dec. 31 and has more than $19 million in the bank, far outpacing his opponents' fundraising.

President Barack Obama's 2012 campaign headquarters is based in One Prudential Plaza. Obama made a surprise visit -- his first -- to the headquarters Wednesday before heading to a series of fundraisers in Chicago.

Obama's recently resigned Chief of Staff, Bill Daley, will serve as co-chair for the locally based campaign.
