Teachers Strike at McHenry High School District 156 to Continue Wednesday

Wednesday marks day five of a teachers strike in northwest suburban McHenry, canceling classes and school services for more than 2,500 northwest suburban Chicago students.

Hundreds packed a school District 156 School Board meeting Monday night, and afterwards the teachers' union and board held emergency negotiations late into the night, but still came away without an agreement to end the strike.

McHenry High School District 156 teachers will continue to strike again Wednesday after another marathon 12-hour negotiation session didn't come to a deal. The strike began last Thursday, after teachers and the District 156 Board of Education met Wednesday night and could not reach an agreement after their first six hours of negotiations.

More than 150 teachers refused to report to school to picket at both McHenry Community High School’s East and West Campuses.

District 156's strike comes after Prospect Heights teachers went back to school last Monday following an entire week of canceled classes as District 23 officials duked it out over pay.
