Five people were critically injured late Saturday when two taxi cabs collided in the River North neighborhood.

Emergency crews responded at 11:50 p.m. to the crash at North Orleans and West Locust streets, according to Fire Media Affairs.

One of the cabs hit a light pole, while the other smashed into some parked cars.

Five people were injured in the crash, according to Fire Media Affairs. Three were taken in critical condition to Northwestern Memorial Hospital and two were taken in critical condition to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center.

An EMS Plan 1 -- which automatically sends five ambulances to the scene -- was called for the crash, Fire Media Affairs said. The EMS Plan 1 was secured at 12:10 a.m. Sunday.
