Taste of Chicago Concert Ticket Sales Lagging

About two-thirds of tickets still available

If you’re thinking of catching a concert at the Taste of Chicago next week, tickets are still available.

It’s the first time the city is charging for tickets for the best seats at main-stage shows at the Taste, and according to recent reports, they’re not selling very well. City officials reveal only 5,637 of the 15,000 seats have sold as of Thursday, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Jennifer Hudson plays the grandstand Wednesday, and Death Cab for Cutie takes the stage Thursday. Michael Franti, Chaka Khan and Dierks Bentley round out the weekend at Grant Park’s Petrillo Band Shell during the food festival.

Groupon is exclusively selling Petrillo Music Shell seats to the festival, along with the Celebrity Chef du Jour, a new dining experience added to the slate this year. Advance concert tickets are $25 and the dining experience is $40.

Lawn seats outside the pavilion will still be free.

Taste of Chicago organizers expect ticket sales to pick up in the days leading up to the July 11-15 festival.
