Locals Make a Splash in Olympic Swimming Trials

The Olympic trials for swimming, featuring seven local hopefuls, began Monday and continue through July 2

Swimmers took their marks Monday as Olympic trials began with hundreds hoping to dive into London.

Local swimmers Matt Grevers of Lake Forest, Tyler McGill of Champaign, Danny and Matt Conway of Warren, Garrett Weber-Gale of Stevens Point, Wis., Brian Donatelli of LaGrange Park, Conor Dwyer of Winnetka, Christine Magnuson of Tinley Park, Kevin Cordes of Naperville and Northwestern University alum Mike Alexandrov will compete against the many other U.S. contenders throughout the week for their Olympic berths.

With more than 1,800 swimmers hoping to make a splash, only 26 men and 26 women will be chosen to compete in London. The top two swimmers in every event and four more in the 100m and 200m will be selected to represent Team USA at the Olympics.

Swimming trials began Monday morning in Omaha, Neb., and continue through July 2.
