Suspect in Gurnee Abduction, Assault Arrested

Anonymous tip led to arrest

A man suspected of kidnapping and assaulting a girl from Gurnee has been arrested.

Richard Gallatin, 37, was arrested at Chain ‘O Lakes State Park after an anonymous caller tipped Lake County police of his whereabouts, according to a Gurnee police report. He was taken into custody Wednesday night and held with a $1 million bond.

Gallatin is charged with six Class X felonies -- four counts of Aggravated Criminal Sexual Assault, one count of Aggravated Kidnapping and one count of Armed Robbery.

The alleged crime began on June 5, when Gallatin abducted a female victim from the parking lot at Gurnee Mills and forced her to drive to an ATM in Grayslake, and then to a remote location in Kane County, where she was sexually assaulted. Gallatin then had his victim drive to a 7-Eleven in Forest Park, where he exited the car.

The victim reported the crime to police after returning to Lake County in the early morning of June 6. Police were able to ID Gallatin from surveillance video at a Gurnee convenience store

Gallatin will appear in bond court Thursday. If convicted, he faces six to 30 years in jail.
