A Chicago great-grandmother who survived numerous health scares became the victim of a hit-and-run crash Sunday.
Jennie Davis, 64, of the 5500 block of West Le Moyne Street, was struck by a westbound sedan at about 9:40 p.m. while crossing the street in the 5500 block of West North Avenue, police said.
Police say a vehicle made a u-turn and fled east from the scene. The car was found unoccupied about a half-mile away.
Eyewitness Sheila Davis says the vehicle hit two other cars before striking Davis.
"It was a matter of you see something coming, but you can't do anything to help anyone," Davis said. "It's like I saw him hit the car, knew he was goiing to hit her."
A suspect was taken into custody Monday in connection with the hit-and-run crash and was being questioned.
Family members say Davis was a great-grandmother who survived five heart attacks in four years.
"Beautiful lady, gorgeous, she was kindhearted, sweet. She would do anything for anybody," the victim's son-in-law, C.C. Saddler said.
