Survey Ranks States With Rudest Drivers

Illinois made the list at no. 25

Illinois drivers aren’t exactly known for being friendly on the road, but according to a new study, they may not be as bad as you think-- unless you're from Wisconsin.

Consumer insurance site Insure.com released a list of the rudest drivers in America, and the states that hate them, and Illinois came in at no. 25, with its biggest enemy being Wisconsin.

With categories including “most rude,” “medium rude,” “semi-rude,” and “least rude,” the no. 25 slot puts Illinois in the “semi-rude” grouping, tied with Georgia drivers.

Many in the Midwest consider Illinois drivers to be “aggressive”—a nice way of describing the speeding, weaving and occasional upright digit often accompanied by some bad-mannered shouting.

On the opposite end of the rankings, Wisconsin came in at no. 45, among the "least-rude" states. Not surprisingly, the state that most hates Wisconsin drivers is Illinois, the list shows.

The insurance site surveyed 2,000 drivers nationwide to determine the list of states with drivers guilty of offensive road behavior and the rudest drivers apparently hail from Idaho.

“The roadways of Idaho present a dichotomy of drivers: Those who are moving so slowly that they’re judged to be rude, and the aggressive drivers who speed around them and flip them off,” the study reports.

The 10 states with the rudest drivers were:

  1. Idaho
  2. Washington, D.C.
  3. New York
  4. Wyoming
  5. Massachusetts
  6. Delaware
  7. Vermont
  8. New Jersey
  9. Nevada
  10. Utah

The states that appear to be the friendliest travelers were Wisconsin, Oregon, Minnesota, Montana, New Hampshire, Maine and North Dakota.
