Summer Break for CPS Students Pushed Back to June 19

Chicago Public Schools students may have rejoiced in the “snow days” they got to stay home for during this winter’s dangerously cold weather, but it now means their summer break will be put off a little longer, the school district announced Friday.

CPS will hold classes on Thursday, June 18 and Friday, June 19 to make up for the days missed due to snow and cold on Feb. 2 and Feb. 19.

“We highly value each day of classroom instruction that our students receive, which is why any missed days are rescheduled,” CPS CEO Barbara Byrd-Bennett said in a statement. “The academic calendar has been updated to allow for students to receive the full education and development time that is needed to have a fully successful school year.”

Summer break for students will officially begin after classes end on Friday, June 19.
