Suburban Teen Tries to Arrange Sale of Gun, Gets Robbed Instead

A southwest suburban teenage who tried to facilitate the sale of a gun from two teens to an acquaintance ended up getting robbed at gunpoint.

The boy had seen a posting on Facebook that the acquaintance was looking for a gun, and arranged a meeting with a the other two teens, who he knew had a gun for sale, a statement from Palos Hills police said.

But when the four met about 11 p.m. Feb. 22 near 111th and Kean Avenue, the teens pulled the gun on the victim, demanded his cell phone and then ran away, police said.

The victim told his parents what had happened and they contacted police. On Tuesday, police arrested the two offenders and both were charged with armed robbery.

Palos Hills Police Chief David Madigan said in the statement he was appalled to learn of the alleged “gang tattoos” worn by at least one of the offenders.

“These kids in city gangs are infiltrating the suburbs in attempts to buy weapons and committing crimes,” the chief said.

The teens appeared in bond court on Thursday, but court information was not immediately available.
