Glenview Speed Skater Gets Warm Sendoff to Sochi

Glenview's Brian Hansen stopped by Northbrook Speed Skating Club on Tuesday

Glenview speed skater Brian Hansen took some time to go back to where his career started before he jumped on a plane to head to Sochi for the Winter Olympics.

Hansen stopped by the Northbrook Speed Skating Club Tuesday to meet with some of the young skaters.

Hansen started skating at the club when he was 10 years old, so aside from posing for pictures and signing autographs, he had some inspiring words for the kids who skate there now.

"There's a lot of resources here at Northbrook that you guys probably don't even know yet. You don't know how great it is to skate at a club like this ... to have a community that's supportive of speed skating. If you guys like it, then do it, and stick with it," Hansen said.

Hansen will compete in the long track speed skating events in Sochi (500m, 1000m, 1500m and Team Pursuit).

He won a silver medal in the team pursuit four years ago in Vancouver.
