Suburban Man Arrested for Shooting at Wife After Car Chase

Suburban Chicago authorities say a 35-year-old man faces attempted murder charges for allegedly firing shots at his wife following a dramatic car chase.

Ronald Smith of Carol Stream was charged with attempted murder, aggravated battery with a firearm and aggravated discharge of a firearm. His bond was set Wednesday at $500,000.

Authorities allege he was chasing his wife's car when he forced the vehicle off the road and opened fire, striking her in the wrist. After she picked up by a passing motorist, Smith allegedly followed that vehicle, forced it off the road and opened fire again. All those shots missed.

Smith turned himself in to Oakbrook Terrace police Tuesday.

It was immediately unclear if he had an attorney. A phone listing for Ronald Smith of Carol Stream was disconnected.
