Suburban Couple Competes to Win Wedding on ‘Today'

A suburban Chicago couple has made it to be one of three finalists competing to win a dream wedding from the "Today" show.

John West and Kaitlin Roseman live in Glenview and like most young couples these days, met online when they connected on “Plenty of Fish” five years ago. West grew up in Addison and Roseman in Glenview.

But nothing about these two is traditional. She was actually the initiator in the beginning.

For the first date they went to a local sushi spot, and ended up talking for so long they closed down the restaurant. Not wanting it to end, they ended up planning their second and third dates that same night.

“She was so unique and bubbly and I liked everything about her,” West told “Today.”

So why do they want to win a wedding? The competition is called "My Big Fat TODAY Wedding" and big families is exactly where they both came from. West has more than 50 first cousins, and Roseman's dad is one of nine.

West told "Today" he fell in love with Roseman’s big heart, and she says he fell for his sense of humor and ambition.

“She has just the kindest, sweetest heart,” West said of the elementary school teacher. “She makes everyone’s day better.”

He decided to make it official with a New Year’s Eve proposal, and the excitement hasn’t worn off since.

“Everyday I wake up and I’m just so excited to be engaged to him,” she said.

Voting ends Friday at 8:30 a.m., when the winning couple will be named on the show.
