Chicago suburbs are set to play a major role in the Democratic National Convention in Milwaukee next July.
As Democratic Party leaders meet in San Francisco, where they are expected to announce the hotel assignments for the 2020 convention, NBC 5 has obtained a list from a source within the Illinois Democratic Party.
According to the list, 26 delegations will be staying in suburban Chicago hotels, including in Rosemont next to O’Hare Airport, where 13 state delegations will be housed, and hotels in Lake County, which will also host 13 delegations. Organizers have said larger delegations like Florida and California — which are both assigned to Rosemont — do not want to be divided into two hotels.
"It will reach as far as Illinois, there’s no question," said Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett. "That we are going to rely on Chicago’s suburbs as our suburbs because O’Hare, Lake County, they will have some hotels that are used there because the delegates want to stay with the other state delegates."
Among the states that will be within walking distance to the Fiserv Forum are Delaware (Joe Biden), Massachusetts (Elizabeth Warren), New Jersey (Corey Booker) and Minnesota (Amy Klobachar).
Here is a look at the list expected to be released later Thursday:
