Several Antioch middle school students were hospitalized Tuesday after school officials reported they took prescription medication a student gave them, according to authorities.
The Antioch Fire Department was called to Antioch Upper Grade School, at 800 Highview Drive, around 11:30 a.m. and evaluated 10 middle-school students, officials said.
The school posted a note on their Facebook page that read:
"As always, safety is the number one concern for all of our students. Today (Tuesday) we had a student report that they distributed a prescription medication to some friends. Therefore, we contacted the parents of those individual students."
It was not clear what drug the students took, according to Fire Chief John Nixon, but the their care was transferred to the fire department after they were discovered to need medical attention “at the ambulance level.”
The students were transported in stable condition to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, Nixon said.
