The Chicago Cubs don’t make it to the playoffs very often, so when they do, it is a very special occasion. But one dedicated fan was faced with a conundrum when he found out that his family had secured tickets to the team’s Wild Card Game against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Wednesday night:

Fortunately, UIUC student Ben Larson didn’t have to make that choice. His professor agreed to move his midterm exam so that he could go to the game in Pittsburgh, which will determine which team gets to play the St. Louis Cardinals in the NLDS later this week.

"The universe only gives cubs fans so many post-season games. They must be savored," according to the email the student posted online.

We’d imagine that there will be plenty of stories coming out over the next few days of people being afflicted with the “blue flu" ahead of Wednesday’s game, but this one is a winner both because of Larson’s dedication and his professor’s willingness to allow a student to potentially experience history.
