Streets Closed, 15 Homes Evacuated in Aurora Due to Ruptured Gas Main

Fifteen suburban homes were evacuated Monday afternoon after a gas main ruptured in Aurora, city officials said.

The leak was reported at 13 N. State Street, according to City of Aurora spokesperson Dan Ferrelli, and service was shut off to the 15 affected homes.

As of just after 5 p.m. Nicor Gas crews were on the scene.

Street closures include New York between Union and Root; Spencer from Spring to Galena; Union closed southbound from Spring to New York and Madison closed at New York.

City officials ask commuters to find alternate routes as they work to resolve the issue.
