Two people were seriously injured after being ejected from a car that was street racing on the Eisenhower Expressway in west suburban Berkeley Saturday night.
Three cars were street racing in the inbound lanes of Interstate 290 at 11:36 p.m., when one lost control and struck a concrete median barrier just south of St. Charles Road, Illinois State Police District Chicago Trooper Mark Hall said.
Two passengers in the back seat were ejected when the rear hatch opened, Hall said. A second vehicle that was street racing then struck one of the victims.
Both rear passengers were taken in serious condition to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood. The female driver and the front seat passenger were treated and released from Elmhurst Memorial Hospital.
The second vehicle involved in the accident remained at the scene while the third street racing vehicle fled, Hall said.
Alcohol did not play a role in the accident, Hall said. Citations are pending.
