Extended Heat Wave Follows Storms

Monday's high was 97 degrees

Fast-moving weekend thunderstorms kicked off a hot, sticky week of temperatures climbing well into the 90s.

For about 100,000 area residents who were still without power Monday, that meant an especially long, potentially dangerous week without air conditioning.

Monday's official high was 97 degrees, but the heat index made it feel another two degrees warmer.

A thunderstrom threat predicted for Monday evening diminished as the day went on, but a chance for rain remains on the forecast for Wednesday and Thursday.
