Storms Possible Before Temps Rebound Into 80s

Get ready for a roller-coaster weather week with up-and-down temperatures and storms

The Chicago area is in store for a week of roller-coaster weather.

After a seasonably warm weekend, temperatures are expected to dip back into the 50s in some locations before warming up into the 80s later this week.

Tuesday high temperatures are expected to range from the low to mid 60s inland and much cooler 50s along the lakefront because of a brisk wind off Lake Michigan.

Showers and thunderstorms are likely on Tuesday, especially in the morning, according to NBC 5 weather models. Models show heavy rain of between one and two inches across the area.

Keep your umbrella handy throughout the week. Showers and isolated thunderstorms remain possible Wednesday as highs reach the low to mid-70s.

The threat for rain and storms continues through Sunday.

The good news? High temps in the upper 70s and low 80s on Thursday and Friday. Both days are expected to be partly sunny, breezy, warm and humid.

Mother's Day weekend kicks off with slightly cooler but still above-average highs in the mid-70s. A few storms again are possible, especially late in the day.

Mom's big day looks mostly cloudy and even cooler with highs in the mid to upper 60s.
