I have no ties to any political organization, to any special interest group, and I am not a lawyer! Why don't we vote for REAL CHANGE this time, and install a CITIZEN PUBLIC SERVANT as the congressman for district 5, instead of another machine Democrat, who offers the promises like Santa Claus, but deals like the grinch. So many Democrats supported, and put Rod Blagojevch into the Governor's mansion TWICE, and, now suddenly, they are reformers!!! I am a Ph.D. scientist, author of 6 US patents in chemical processing and microelectronics, and small businessman. I favor smaller government, lower taxes, NO to massive bailouts, and NO to massive federal government programs. The Department of Energy has been consuming $$BILLIONS since the Carter administration, but, we are all still driving cars that run on gasoline. How has this massive organization helped you? As a scientist, I understand the complexities of altnerative energy forms better than any of the other 25 candidates in this race! Energy is so critical for the longterm economic stability and safety of the US and we need legislators who get it. Lawyers and career politicians don't get it! Pat Quinn NOW wanting to clean up Springfield with the help of Patrick Colllins. This is "Johnny Come Lately" behavior that an elected officer of the State of Illinois should not display. He virtually has been "sitting around" and now that thumbs are down on the Governor, he wants to sprout, shoot up, bloom and do his thing. Quinn could have been "doing his thing" a long time ago; the Governor would have supported him. But he did not want to do anything with the Governor. • Anonymous Monday, Jan 5 at 5:09 PM FLAG COMMENT I live in the 5th district and so I have some perspective on the issue. Dan Rostenkowski and Rod Blagojevich held the seat before Rahm Emanuel so it'll be interesting to see what happens to the next House rep. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Illinois's_5th_congressional_district) 1. The constitution gives the Governor the right to pick a successor for Senate, but NOT the House of Rep. 2. The 5th Congressional District of Illinois is very a very small part of Illinois (see link). Cost of an election will be high financially and politically, as a Republican could take the Senate seat. This is why the Illinois legislator did not pass legislation requiring a special election, it wasn't worth the risk of a Republican winning the seat. 4. Emanuel's seat will simply be added to an election that's already taking place for municipal seats (with the exception of the municipal primary in February, because it's too late to add candidates to that election. 5. Blagojevich will not be convicted of any federal crimes. Despite US Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald telling them to hold off on the story, the Chicago Tribune published an article on Dec. 5 tipping off Blago that his phones were being tapped. So Blago told his brother to "call of that thing". The actual payoff that was going to happen that week would have given Fitzgerald proof of pay to play and Blago would be going to federal prison.
