14-Year-Old Boy Fatally Shot in South Suburban Riverdale

A 14-year-old junior high student was fatally shot Sunday evening in south suburban Riverdale, according to police.

Police said they received multiple calls around 7:30 p.m. Sunday reporting gunshots fired and a male victim lying in the street in the 14300 Block of Dearborn.

When officers arrived to the scene they found Rashad Oliver, 14, with a gunshot wound to the head, authorities said.

The teen was immediately transported to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn where he died of his injuries, according to police.

Oliver was a student at a Dolton Riverdale District 184 junior high school. The superintendent of schools for the district is working with authorities to have extra staff available to work with students following the tragic incident, police said.

The investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
