Snow Possible Across Chicago Area This Weekend

The Chicago area could see some snowfall heading into the weekend.

Light snow is expected to develop Friday evening in northern counties before it slides south, covering much of the Chicago area. 

The snowfall is expected to continue through the overnight hours and into Saturday morning. 

It is forecast is expected to end early in the metro area but lake effect snow showers will continue in northwest Indiana through the afternoon. 

A Winter Storm Watch is in effect for LaPorte County in Indiana, warning of heavy and blowing snow with up to 8 inches of accumulation possible, according to the National Weather Service. 

In Illinois, however, only up to an inch of snow is expected for most, but up to 3 inches could be seen along the lakefront. 

Temperatures stay cold through the weekend, with highs in the mid- to upper-20s Saturday and low- to mid-30s Sunday. 

The chance for snow returns on and off throughout next week.
